8/31:
Can S.C. revolutionize its energy policy? by Mike Fitts,
The (Columbia, S.C.) State:
"The book points out that electricity in the South generally is cheaper
than it is nationally, but we still spend more on power because
we use, and waste, so much. Many of the books recommendations arent
really radical: It envisions governments building more efficiently, and
private business being encouraged to follow suit with incentives. "

"
Surely, though, there's nothing wrong with religious groups wanting
to do what they can to protect Alabama's environment and to use
energy wisely."

8/29: Taking
a religious look at the environment, by David Prather, Huntsville
(Ala.) Times:
The book-support tour was organized by a group called the Center for a
Better South. It's a nonpartisan think tank out of Charleston, S.C. The
environment is its big issue this year. Last year, it was (gasp!) taxes.
I went to its Web site - www.bettersouth.org
- and read its executive summary of its proposal to reform taxes in Southern
states. ... Surely, though, there's nothing wrong with religious groups
wanting to do what they can to protect Alabama's environment and to use
energy wisely."

Book suggests it's time to reduce carbon footprint
Column by Jim Cato, Beaufort (S.C.) Gazette
"Brack said that the book is an important guide for Southerners because
their "lawmakers have been timid about taking action to protect the
environment. If they don't take action, those special places we have in
the South will disappear."

"Many
Southerners apparently share Scarlet O'Hara's view--"I'll think
about that tomorrow"--but eventually the tomorrows run out."

8/24:
Time to stop procrastinating
Editorial in The Free Lance-Star, Fredericksburg, Va.
"It is in each Southern state's interest to set goals and sketch
a roadmap for achieving them. The South is hot, and it seems will get
only hotter. The South is a primary hurricane target, and the storms may
be getting more fierce. The South has invested heavily in coastal development,
and that makes it vulnerable to rising sea levels."

of Alabamians. Were here to support discussion and find a
middle ground, he said.

Springdale
(Ark.) Morning News
"'If you look at a lot of the basic policies that would be beneficial,
not just to the environment but just to people in their daily lives, that
have been enacted by state legislatures around the country, there's kind
