The book-support tour was organized by a group called the Center for a
Better South. It's a nonpartisan think tank out of Charleston, S.C. The
environment is its big issue this year. Last year, it was (gasp!) taxes.
I went to its Web site - www.bettersouth.org
- and read its executive summary of its proposal to reform taxes in Southern
states. ... Surely, though, there's nothing wrong with religious groups
wanting to do what they can to protect Alabama's environment and to use
energy wisely."

Alabama Christian Coalition backs Better South book

"On Thursday, Christian Coalition Chairman Randy Brinson played host
to Andy Brack, president of the Center for a Better South, on his multistate
tour to promote a book about environmental issues in the South. Brinson
said the Christian Coalition of Alabama is trying to encourage discussion
on a wider variety of issues affecting the quality of life and empowerment
of Alabamians. “We’re here to support discussion and find a
middle ground,” he said.

"State and local leaders are being called on to make Tennessee more
environmentally friendly....The Center for a Better South unveiled a new
book Tuesday full of new environmental ideas for Tennessee. The book contains
15 recommendations including creating a global warming leadership agency,
adopting renewable energy standards, and requiring new and retrofitted
buildings and schools to be built to green building standards. The book
also has a dozen ways the public can become greener.
